PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior Alicia Weber (Northville, Mich./Northville HS), junior Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson HS) and freshman Grace Choi (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson HS) of the University of Michigan women's golf team were named to the Big Ten's Golfers to Watch list today (Wednesday, Sept. 4).
Playing in her first season with U-M after transferring from Cal Poly, Weber started six of seven events a year ago while averaging 78.67 per round. She won her first collegiate event, tying for medalist honors at the 2012 Wolverine Invitational at the U-M Golf Course. She also fired a career-best one-under 71 in the second round of the 2012 Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Grogan was one of two Wolverines to start all 10 events last season and posted a career-best 76.87 scoring average, lowering her prior best by nearly two shots. She equaled her career-best single-round tally with a one-under 71 in the first round of the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate and posted a career-best fifth-place individual finish at the Wolverine Invitational.
Newcomer Choi was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Woodrow Wilson in Dallas, Texas. She captured the medalist honor at the 2013 Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) 4A State Championship, nearly 12 shots better than the runner-up, and set the state record for lowest winning total at eight-under 132 (68-64). During her prep career, she won three 4A Regional II State qualifiers and four 4A District titles.
The Wolverines open their 2013-14 season traveling to Knoxville, Tenn., Friday through Sunday, Sept. 20-22, for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. The three-day, 54-hole event hosted by Tennessee will be played at the Cherokee Country Club.
