The Palmetto Intercollegiate is Michigan's final fall event. Overall, U-M will have competed in four early season events. Following the winter break, the Wolverines will begin their spring season with the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in mid-February.
In addition to the women's event at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, the Michigan men's golf team will also be in Kiawah Island, S.C., during the weekend. The men's team will be competing in its fall finale, Sunday through Tuesday, Oct. 27-29, at the Invitational at the Ocean Course at the famed Ocean Course.
Michigan returns to the College of Charleston's event for the second straight season. Current Wolverines Lauren Grogan (t-23rd), Alicia Weber (t-32nd), Devon Compton (t-39th), Catherine Peters (t-50th) and Chelsea Pezzola (t-32nd, individual) all competed in the event. [ Recap ]
Michigan has one other appearance at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. In 2004, Michigan finished as the runner-up with an 885 total at the Oak Pointe Golf Course. [ Recap ]
Catherine Peters has started all four events this fall season and will play as U-M's No. 1 player to begin this week's Palmetto Intercollegiate.
After starting all 10 events last season, Lauren Grogan has continued playing in every event this season. Overall, she has started her last 16 straight events for U-M. Yugene Lee and Alyssa Shimel are U-M's most-experienced players with 33 career events. Of those 33 tournaments, Shimel has started all 33 of her career events, while Lee has 30 starts.
Though three events, Catherine Peters is shooting 78.13 per round, nearly a shot better than last season's average of 79.25. Some of the credit goes to a new putting stance she is continuing to work on with U-M head coach Jan Dowling.
U-M has been represented in regional competition by the team or an individual in 10 of the last 13 seasons, making team appearances in 2001, '02, '05, '07, '09, '11 and '12.
