Nov. 18, 2013

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head women's golf coach Jan Dowling announced today (Monday, Nov. 18) the signing of Megan Kim (Redondo Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS), Kathy Lim (Langley, British Columbia, Canada/R.E Mountain Secondary) and Emily White (Saline, Mich./Saline HS) to National Letters of Intent for the 2014-15 season.

"I'm extremely excited and honored to sign my very first class of recruits at Michigan," said Dowling. "This group of young ladies brings consistency, depth and a great deal of potential. They are 100 percent committed to the program, their games and helping elevate Michigan women's golf to new heights. All three players have the ability to contribute a great deal as soon as they step foot on campus next September."

Kim, who is a two-time captain of the Mira Costa golf team, led the Mustangs to the CIF Central Division championship and competed as an individual at the CIF SoCal championships, finishing as the medalist runner-up (72) in 2011. She is a three-time Daily Breeze All-Area selection (2010, '11, '12) and was the Bay League Player of the Year in 2011. She has six top-10 finishes on the AJGA Tour and qualified for the U.S. Girl's Junior Championship in 2012. Kim's brother, David, is a sophomore on the Illinois golf team.

"I cannot say enough about Megan's passion to be a part of the Michigan family and bring our golf program to new heights," said Dowling. "She has been loyal and sought out a challenging collegiate experience, which is exactly what we are looking for. Megan brings a high level of consistency and has loads of potential."

"I'm very honored and proud to be a Wolverine," said Kim. "I'm looking forward to carrying on the championship pride of Michigan."

Lim, who plays out of the Redwoods Golf Club in Langley, British Columbia, was a member of Team Canada's Women's Development Team (2012-13) and recently finished fifth at the Canadian Future Links Pacific Championship (73-79-74/226). In 2013, she posted two top-12 finishes on the AJGA tour and was a semifinalist at the PNGA Junior Amateur Championship, finishing second in stroke-play qualifying (71). She tied for fifth at the British Columbia Junior Championship in 2012 (75-72-76-74/297) and eighth in 2013 (74-77-76-74/301)

"Kathy is a wonderful addition to our program," said Dowling. "She has a high confidence level that will bring a greater competitive edge to our program. She also has some diverse experience playing in national golf events at a very high level. She has a great understanding of what it's like to be on a golf team and has the knack to go low."

"I am beyond excited to have signed to play college golf at the University of Michigan," said Lim. "From the beginning I fell in love with everything U-M has to offer from the campus, people and amazing academics with athletics. I feel so lucky to be a part of something that is as great as Michigan and cannot wait for the best four years of my life."

White has helped Saline to four straight MHSAA Division 1 State Final appearances, including winning the team title in 2010. She posted three straight top-five finishes at the Regional Championship, winning the 2013 individual title with a four-under 67 at the U-M Golf Course. She was the medalist runner-up in 2012 and tied for fifth in 2011. White finished third at the 2013 MHSAA Division 1 State Finals (81-76/157) after tying for sixth in 2012 (81-76/157). This summer she finished fourth at the Women's Western (WWGA) National Jr. Championship (73-78/151).

"Emily has elevated her game in the last six months, which put her on our radar," said Dowling. "She has a great athletic background and unbelievable potential. I see Emily as a team member that will be a consistent contributor and continue to improve year in and year out."

"I am looking forward to joining the golf program and taking advantage of everything that Michigan has to offer," said White.

Michigan will graduate four seniors from this year's roster -- Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County HS), Chelsea Pezzola (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal Prep), Alyssa Shimel (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood HS) and Alicia Weber (Northville, Mich./Northville HS).
