ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Two members of the No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team received Big Ten weekly honors on Monday (Jan. 13), as fifth-year senior Natalie Beilstein (Butler, Pa./Knoch) was named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week and, freshman Nicole Artz (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
In Michigan's tri-meet win at Iowa State last Friday (Jan. 10), Beilstein took first on uneven bars (9.900), finished fourth on vault (9.800) and tied for fourth on floor exercise (9.850). Artz, competing in her first collegiate meet, led off the balance beam rotation and tied for first with teammate Joanna Sampson (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) with a 9.825 score. Artz also placed second on floor exercise (9.900). She is the first U-M gymnast to receive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors since Sachi Sugiyama (Keller, Texas/Keller) on Feb. 27, 2012.
Michigan is back on the road this week, facing North Carolina State, North Carolina and Towson in a quad meet on Friday (Jan. 17) in Raleigh, N.C. The meet will begin at 7 p.m.
