Week #5: Michigan Hosts Maryland, No. 11 Kent State, UIC on Saturday

The eighth-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (5-1, 4-1 Big Ten) hosts the largest home meet of the year, welcoming No. 11 Kent State, Maryland and Illinois-Chicago to Crisler Arena on Saturday (Jan. 29) at 6 p.m. Kent State is having an historic year, earning the program's highest ranking in program history. Maryland is 4-1 on the season with its only loss coming to Kent State in the first week of the season, while Illinois-Chicago is 2-3.

Michigan is 9-6 all-time against Kent State, but the programs have only competed twice since 1988, with U-M winning both meetings. The Wolverines are 6-1 all-time against Maryland with Michigan's only loss coming in 1983, while the Wolverines are a perfect 5-0 all-time against Illinois-Chicago.

Botterman Wins Two Big Ten Gymnast of the Week Honors
Senior Kylee Botterman earned her second consecutive Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award after winning four individual events against No. 21 Illinois and Penn State on Jan. 14 and posting the nation's highest vault (9.975) and all-around (39.550) scores. Botterman's two weekly honors in 2011 give her four in her career -- sixth on Michigan's all-time list.

Leaders of the Pack
Senior Kylee Bottermanis among the top 20 gymnasts in the nation in three events and in the all-around competition through four meets. She holds the nation's second-best all-around average (39.433), the nation's second-best vault average (9.925), 14th on the uneven bars (9.833), 13th on balance beam (9.833) and the 20th-ranked floor average (9.842). Fifth-year senior Jordan Sexton has the nation's 14th-best balance beam average (9.833).

Bev Plocki's 550th Career Victory
Head coach Bev Plocki earned her 550th career victory last week against Illinois and Penn State. She is third on U-M's list of active coaches with the most career wins, trailing hockey coach Red Berenson and softball coach Carol Hutchins. In 21 seasons at the helm, Plocki has 18 20-win seasons, seven 30-win seasons and back-to-back 36-win seasons in 1994 and 1995 -- her best showing with the Wolverines.

Michigan vs. Alabama on the Big Ten Network
Michigan and Alabama will clash on national TV on the Big Ten Network on Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. from Crisler Arena. The meet will air on the network on Sunday, March 13, at 2 p.m.
