ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's gymnastics head coach Bev Plocki announced Wednesday (April 16) the addition of India McPeak (Bangor, Northern Ireland/Regent House Grammar School) to the team's 2014-15 recruiting class.
"We're thrilled to be adding India," Plocki said. "She has so much untapped potential and such a passion for the sport. We think she'll make an immediate impact on the balance beam and grow into a phenomenal college athlete over the course of her four years at Michigan."
McPeak trains at Salto Gymnastics Club Lisburn. She has national team experience, doubling as a member of both the Northern Ireland and Irish National Teams. Last year, McPeak competed for Ireland at the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, and the Cottbus Cup in Germany. She is slated to compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (for Northern Ireland) and potentially at the 2016 Olympics in Rio (for Ireland). In March, McPeak finished third on balance beam and 13th in the all-around at the Austrian Team Open and was named 2013 Young Sports Person of the Year at the North Down Sports Advisory Council Awards. Last November, she helped Northern Ireland win a bronze medal at the Northern European Championships, taking sixth in the all-around.
McPeak is the fifth member of the 2014-15 recruiting class, joining Brianna Brown (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West), Ilana Gordon (San Carlos, Calif./St. Francis), Cailee Hills (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Latin School) and Lauren Marinez (Orlando, Fla./The Classical School of the First Academy).
