ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Seven members of last year's University of Michigan women's gymnastics team received Scholastic All-Americans by the National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W). Among those to receive the honor are Class of 2014 graduates Teresa Arthur, Joanna Sampson, Shelby Gies and Reema Zakharia, senior Sachi Sugiyama (Keller, Texas/Keller) and sophomores Nicole Artz (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) and Talia Chiarelli (Boston, Mass./Lexington).
To be eligible, student-athletes must maintain a grade-point average of 3.50 or better for the 2013-14 academic year. Arthur is the only member of the group to receive the honor in multiple years (2011-14). With six first-time honorees, the program has now 57 NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans in its history.
To go along with their academic honors, Artz, Gies, Sampson and Sugiyama all received NCAA All-American citations at the NCAA Championships back in April.
