Welcome to the Weekly Warmup! Each Thursday during the preseason, MGoBlue.com's Brad Rudner will sit down with each member of the University of Michigan women's gymnastics team to talk about the preseason training, last season's experience, and what lies ahead for the 2013 season.

This week's edition of the Weekly Warmup features sophomore Annette Miele (Easton, Pa.).

Brad: Now that you've had one year under your belt, what's the biggest change you've noticed from being a freshman to being a sophomore?
Annette: I think it's different because we now have someone younger than us that we have to look out for. It puts more responsibility on your plate as an upperclassman. I enjoy looking out for the freshmen. From a gymnastics standpoint, I have a lot more experience and I think I have a lot more to give back this year than I did last year. Knowing that I have this one year under my belt, I'm just looking to improve in every way, and be more confident in everything.

Brad: Looking back on your freshman year, how would you best describe that experience?
Annette: It was a wild ride. We had a difficult year with the injuries and everything, but it was an experience that is really going to help our team. We know that we can only go up from here. We can be at the worst possible spot and still find a way to come out on top.

Brad: The team's annual retreat was last weekend. How was that?
Annette: It was really good. There was a lot of team bonding. It got us really pumped up for the season. We got a lot of feedback from each other, especially on the things that we can improve upon as a team. We learned how to communicate better with our teammates and coaches. It was a lot of fun, and we threw a lot of things in our fire, as we say. We're all ready for season and ready to get going.

Brad: What are some of the things you focused on this past summer and in the preseason?
Annette: I worked pretty hard on my physical fitness and trying to maintain my skills, while also obtaining new skills. I want to be more prepared this year than I was last year.

Brad: With most everyone back from last year and a few new faces, there is a lot of excitement and enthusiasm about this upcoming season. With that in mind, what have these first couple weeks of practice been like in the gym?
Annette: They've been very motivating. Everyone is really psyched up for the season. We're excited to have all four classes of gymnasts on our roster, which we haven't had in a few years. That's a new experience for all of us. There is so much energy and motivation going around. The feeling in the gym this year is so different than it was last year and it's because of the energy we have with each other. We all know this could be our year.
