Michigan Head Coach Jennifer Ulehla
On getting down early and coming back ... "At the time out, it was a matter of us not having shown up yet. We had to get out there and attack. Then that was what they were able to do. I think that does show a tremendous amount of heart. It also shows that we have what it takes, it's just a matter of getting out there and consistently giving it our all for 60 minutes."
On what is preventing the team from reaching that next level ... "It is a little bit of everything. Fitness wise, being young, their bodies are still adapting to our weight training and we do need to reach a different level. We also don't have a lot of depth in the midfield, so they end up having to do a little bit more running than we would like. Fitness is a part of it, as is execution. Being able to get out there and do exactly what it is we are asking them to do, from when we actually draw the play up to them actually going out there, is sometimes difficult for them. That can be attributed to youth. At this point in time, we recognize we are able to compete at a real high level, but have to do so for 60 minutes straight. That was a great team that we just played and we showed some great glimpses of being able to really compete with them."
On getting more scoring opportunities ... "One of our goals for this game was to take away opportunities for Brown and to give ourselves as many opportunities. We had to get more shots off and that's exactly what we did today. I think we need to work on the quality of our shots. Obviously some were going high, some were going wide, and too many of them were going right to the goalie. We did make the adjustment when we needed to, as far as being a little bit more deceptive and placing the ball where we asked them to place it. We were going hard to goal. Brown was playing a high-pressure defense, but we were able to spread them out and really go at the goal. That is in our favor. I was really proud of how we handled that pressure, especially in the first half. We were able to get all of those shots off. It's just too bad we didn't land more of them, but we are definitely going in the right direction."
