With the U-M women's lacrosse program's first recruiting class in the books, all 28 members will now be featured in their own student-athlete spotlight, breaking down each future Wolverine, on and off the field.
Emma Guarino is a three-time varsity letterwinner (2010, '11, '12) and will play her final season at Roland Park Country School (Baltimore, Md.) this spring. The left-handed midfielder has led Roland Park to a combined 39-21 record in three seasons. She also plays club lacrosse for M&D Black 2013.
As a junior at Roland Park, she started all 18 games, helping her team to a 10-8 overall record.
She is also a four-year letterwinner is field hockey (2009, '10, '11, '12) and was a member of the indoor track and field team as a junior. College lacrosse runs in the Guarino family, as her brother Thomas is a sophomore goalkeeper for the Maryland Terrapins.
As a four-year honor roll student, Guarino also received Headmaster's Commendation and is actively involved in Students for Environmental Action (SEA).

What attracted you to the University of Michigan?
"I was attracted to the University of Michigan because of the academics -- the sense of pushing myself to my limit in a classroom to discover what I was capable of doing intellectually. The sense of community also attracted me to the university. The amount of pride for Michigan from the students, wearing their Michigan gear and cheering on the football team made me want to be a part of the student body."
What are your thoughts about being part of Michigan's first women's lacrosse team?
"I'm excited to set the tone and level of play that future Michigan lacrosse players will have to live up to. I also look forward to the chance to help build a program and establish it amongst the other top lacrosse teams out there."
How has it been getting to know your future Wolverine teammates?
"Getting to know my future teammates has been exciting; it makes me want to go to Michigan now. They are all a really nice group of people, and I can't wait for us to become teammates next year."
What do you like about Michigan/Ann Arbor from what you've seen so far?
"I like the small, hometown feel of Ann Arbor and how cute the shops are. I was attracted to Michigan because I like snow and the cold."
What is your favorite lacrosse moment of all-time?
"In the summer of 2012, my club team, M&D Black 2013, came back from being down by nine goals at halftime against Skywalkers and beat them for the championship."
How did you first get involved in lacrosse?
"My mom signed me up when I was in first grade; she thought it would be fun for me to try a new sport."
Who is your role model, and why?
"My role model is my older brother Thomas. He tenaciously works hard and never gives up no matter how big the task ahead of him. He never gives in to fatigue or succumbs to laziness, always getting up to work toward a goal."
What do you enjoy doing when you're not playing lacrosse?
"When I am not playing lacrosse, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and listening to music."
