Women's Lacrosse Student-Athlete Spotlight: Sara Kramer

Feb. 5, 2013

With the U-M women's lacrosse program's first recruiting class in the books, all 28 members will now be featured in their own student-athlete spotlight, breaking down each future Wolverine, on and off the field.

Sara Kramer is a three-time varsity letterwinner (2010, '11, '12) and will play her final season at Clearview Regional (Mullica Hill, N.J.) this spring. The right-handed defender has tallied 47 goals and 12 assists for the Pioneers.

As a team captain her junior year, she helped lead Clearview Regional to the South Jersey Group IV championship and an appearance in the state tournament. The Pioneers finished the season with a 17-5 record, including a 15-4 mark in conference play. She recorded 35 goals, seven assists and averaged 2.5 ground balls and nearly two caused turnovers per game. Following the season, Kramer earned a spot on the All-Olympic Conference first team and All-South Jersey first team.

After leading Clearview Regional to a 14-4 record in her sophomore year, Kramer received All-Olympic Conference first team and All-South Jersey second team recognition. Kramer made an early impact as a freshman defender for the Pioneers and was named the team's Rookie of the Year.

When not competing in lacrosse or basketball for Clearview Regional, she also plays club lacrosse for South Jersey Select. She helped her team win the Northern RISE Girl's Lacrosse Showcase in Massachusetts.

She is also a four-year letterwinner in basketball (2009, '10, '11, '12), where she was a All-Olympic Conference first team selection and team captain as a junior. She also led her team in steals, rebounds and blocks, en route to being named the team's Most Valuable Player. College lacrosse runs in the Kramer family, as her mother, Rita, was a two-year member of the varsity field hockey and lacrosse teams at West Chester University.

As an honor roll student, Kramer is a member of National Honor Society and Varsity Club.

"Sara is a remarkably solid athlete who possesses all the fundamental elements of a great defender at the collegiate level. Her footwork, agility, intuitiveness and competitive attitude shared with her sheer will to win is sure to be a strong driving force on Team One. Sara is a go-getter, an ambitious and determined student-athlete, whose potential to develop and mature in ways that will make a decisive difference in our program is evident."
