CLEMSON, S.C. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan rowing team sent five boats into competition at the Clemson Invitational Saturday (April 20) at Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. The Wolverines rowed against five of the nation's top-ranked teams at one of the largest regattas held during the regular season.

Michigan's first novice eight (1N8) won the morning session to increase its unbeaten streak to four races before suffering its first setback of the season in the afternoon session. The 1N8 boat (6:49.4) lost by three tenths of a second to Virginia (6:49.4).

Michigan's 1V8 finished with a time of 6:34.4, which was second to No. 7 UCLA (6:31.6) in its heat and was the fourth-fastest boat in the three morning sessions. The only other boats to finish faster were Virginia (6:24.1) and Ohio State (6:27.0). The Wolverines placed second to the Bruins in three of the four varsity races (1V8, 1V4 and 2V4) and finished third to UCLA and No. 14 Clemson in the 2V8 competition.

In the afternoon session, U-M finished third in the 1V8 and 1V4 races while placing fourth in the 2V4 competition. Michigan's 1V8 boat (6:19.0) rowed 6.2 seconds behind Virginia (6:12.8) and 1.3 seconds behind UCLA (6:17.7). The 2V8 boat was fifth in its competition.

Michigan will take a week off from competition before returning to the water against Princeton, currently ranked No. 5. The Wolverines and Tigers will face at Lake Carnegie on Saturday, May 4, at 10:20 a.m.
