BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team kicked off its 2012 fall season with an exhibition race against Michigan State and Notre Dame on Sunday (Sept. 16) at Belleville Lake. The event's format consisted of two flights. Each flight raced five pieces, with each piece being four minutes long. The event had a stroke rate of 26 strokes per minute.
In the first flight, the Wolverines earned wins in four of the five pieces, losing only the second piece by one seat to the visiting Spartans. Both Michigan boats finished in third or better (of six boats) in three of the five pieces and won by as much as one boat length in the opening piece. U-M swept the board in the second flight, winning all five pieces.
Michigan will continue its fall exhibition schedule on Sunday, Oct. 6, when the Wolverines travel to Columbus, Ohio, for showdown with Ohio State.
