EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing team competed in a novice-only event at Michigan State on Sunday (Oct. 27), winning seven-of-10 overall pieces at Grand River Park.

The race format saw two flights with five four-minute pieces each and strokes capped at 24 strokes per minute. With ideal racing conditions, both teams exceeded the stroke limit during the regatta. Both Michigan and Michigan State had two even eights in the top flight. The Michigan A boat rowed to victories in all five pieces of the first flight, with the Michigan B boat finishing in second place in four of the five pieces

In the second flight, the Michigan 3N boat earned victories in the second and third pieces before both teams switched five rowers in each of their boats. Michigan State's 3N crew earned the win in the first piece, while its 4N crew won the fourth and fifth pieces of the second flight.

The fall season for women's rowing concludes on Friday, Nov. 1, with the sixth-annual Michigan Classic, an exhibition against the Michigan men's club team on Belleville Lake.
