EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team competed in a novice-only event against Michigan State University on Sunday (Oct. 28), winning the final four of 10 overall pieces at Grand River Park.

The race format saw two flights with five four-minute pieces each and strokes capped at a 24 strokes per minute limit. The Michigan State 1N crew rowed to victories in all five pieces of the first flight, with the Michigan 1N boat finishing in second place in four of the five pieces. In the fourth piece, Michigan's 1N caught a boat-stopping crab in the first 30 seconds of the race and rowed back past MSU 2N and Michigan 2N to capture a second-place finish.

After falling to MSU 3N in the first piece of the second flight, the Michigan 3N and 4N boats combined to win the final four pieces of the day against the Spartans' 3N and 4N crews.

The fall season concludes on Friday, Nov. 2, with the Belleville Classic, an exhibition against the Michigan men's club team on Belleville Lake.
