PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- The Big Ten Conference Office announced today (Tuesday, April 2) that the University of Michigan women's rowing first varsity eight has earned the Boat of the Week honors.

The Wolverines rowed faster than their opposition, defeating the Spartans' top boat by 14 seconds (6:46.59) and the Hawkeyes boat by 23 seconds (7:07.16) in their head-to-head races. The 1V8 set the tone for Michigan's sweep of all 13 races on the weekend.

Michigan's first varsity eight was made up of coxswain Colleen Macke, stroke Melisa Ongun, Shannon Stief, Bryna Oleshansky, Emily Idoni, Jessica Eiffert, Priscilla Livingston, Shannon Winchell and bow Taylor Schubert.

This is the first weekly laurel for the Wolverines this season.

Michigan will row against Tennessee, Notre Dame and Ohio State this Saturday (April 6) in Columbus, Ohio. The races will be held at the Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River starting at 9 a.m.
