The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan rowing team will compete against Tennessee, Notre Dame and Ohio State this Saturday (April 6) in Columbus, Ohio. The races will be held at the Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River starting at 9 a.m.

Michigan's first varsity eight was named the Big Ten's Boat of the Week after sweeping both of its races last weekend. The Wolverines defeated the Spartans' top boat by 14 seconds (6:46.59) and the Hawkeyes boat by 23 seconds (7:07.16) in their head-to-head races. This is the first weekly award for the Wolverines in 2013.
U-M's first varsity eight was made up of coxswain Colleen Macke, stroke Melisa Ongun, Shannon Stief, Bryna Oleshansky, Emily Idoni, Jessica Eifferet, Priscilla Livingston, Shannon Winchell and bow Taylor Schubert.
Michigan won all 13 races against Michigan State, Iowa and Notre Dame.
It is believed to be the first time in school history that the Wolverines swept every race against their in-state and conference rival, Michigan State.
Michigan is ranked eighth in the week one CRCA/US Rowing Coaches poll released on April 3.
The women's rowing teams selected a six-person leadership council for the 2013 season. The student-athletes making up the council are Colleen Macke, Melisa Ongun, Bryna Oleshansky, Sarah Trovato, Alex Spaulding and Traci Carson.
On the flip side, the Wolverines have five senior members that are leading the way: coxswain Kate Grimaldi, coxswain Colleen Macke, port Melisa Ongun, starboard Samantha Scholl and starboard Shannon Stief.
The women's rowing team will host its only home regatta of the season next Saturday, April 13, at 9 a.m. Michigan will host Ohio State and Indiana at Belleville Lake.
