Four Wolverines Chosen for CRCA All-Region Teams

May 30, 2013

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Four members of the University of Michigan rowing team have received Central All-Region honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), announced prior to this weekend's 2013 NCAA Rowing Championships. Senior port Melisa Ongun (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park) and sophomore port/starboard Jessica Eiffert (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) were selected to the first team, while senior starboard Shannon Stief (Mukilteo, Wash./Kamiak) and senior coxswain Kate Grimaldi (Sammamish, Wash./Seattle Preparatory School) earned second-team accolades.

This is the first all-region recognition for all four student-athletes. Ongun and Stief received All-Big Ten first team honors, and Grimaldi picked up second-team all-conference honors earlier in the month.

The CRCA awards all-region for outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains in all five regions across the country. The student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have completed in their team's varsity boat in 75 percent of the races during the season.

The four Wolverine student-athletes are eligible for All-America award selection following the 2013 NCAA Rowing Championships.
