Rowing at Michigan
Michigan has placed in the top five at the NCAA Rowing Championships six times in the last 12 years, an accomplishment only matched by five other schools. The team has won four Big Ten titles, more than any other school in the conference. Since 1996, Michigan rowing has produced 16 first team All-Americans, five second team All-Americans, three Big Ten Rowers of the Year, three Big Ten Freshmen of the Year and 38 All-Big Ten selections.
U-M has produced a combined 12 U.S. and Canadian Senior National Team rowers. Kate MacKenzie and Kate Johnson represented the U.S. in the 2004 Athens Olympics and Ellen Tomek and Brett Sickler rowed in Beijing for the U.S. in 2008, while Janine Hansen and Heather Mandoli Alschuler competed for Canada. Along with those six athletes, Michigan has had six more athletes on Senior National teams. Sarah Trowbridge, Stesha Carle, Karen Colwell and Bernadette Martin Teeley all rowed for the U.S., while Kristen McCarty and Katie Reynolds Haasen represented Canada.
The Wolverines are led by the only head coach in the history of the program Mark Rothstein, the 2001 Collegiate National Coach of the Year, three-time Big Ten and Central Region Coach of the Year.
Michigan rowing calls Belleville Lake home. The 6,000 square-foot boathouse was constructed in 2000 and has two large bays to hold both U-M's training and competition shells, as well as coaches offices, a fully equipped training room, locker room and classroom. [ Belleville Lake ]
U-M rowing has produced 97 Academic All-Big Ten Athletes, 17 CRCA National Scholar-Athletes and has received more than 300 University of Michigan Athletic Academic Achievement Awards.

About Ann Arbor
Want to live in a place that the New York Times listed as No. 5 on the "Best Places to Live" list? Bicycling Magazine voted Ann Arbor one of the Top 20 Bike Towns in the United States, including No. 3 in the Best Cycling City category. How about living in a city that regularly draws musical acts such as Norah Jones, Ben Folds, the Barenaked Ladies (for free, even!) and many others, at venues walking distance from Michigan dorms.
