Angela Napoli recently concluded her third season at Michigan. She oversees the U-M goalkeepers.
Napoli coached Haley Kopmeyer to Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year honors in 2012. Kopmeyer, a two-time team captain, led Michigan to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2012, and graduated as the program's career leader in nearly every goalkeeping category, including saves (383), shutouts (27), save percentage (.875), and goals against average (0.96). Under Napoli's guidance, Kopmeyer also helped set the program record for most shutouts in a season (13).
Napoli boasts 10 years of assistant coaching experience at the NCAA level and served one season as head coach for the University of Massachusetts. A former standout goalkeeper for the Minutewomen, Napoli took over the UMass program from longtime coach Jim Rudy on an interim basis and guided the squad to a 6-11-2 record during the 2009 season.Prior to being named head coach, Napoli had served on the UMass coaching staff as an assistant coach for four years and posted a 34-30-6 record.
Before rejoining her alma mater, Napoli gained four years of experience as an assistant coach at three separate schools. She spent the 2004 season as an assistant coach at Albany, specifically working with the goalkeepers. Napoli worked for William & Mary as an assistant coach for two years, guiding the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances (2002, 2003) and capturing a Colonial Athletic Association title in 2003. She spent her first year of coaching as an assistant coach at Colorado during the 2001 season.
Her coaching resume extends beyond the collegiate ranks as Napoli worked for the John Daly Girls Soccer Camp in 2002 and served as the Director of Goalkeepers for the Boulder County Force Soccer Club in Colorado.
Napoli graduated in 2000 from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in Sport Management. She was a four-year letterwinner in goal for Minutewomen (1996-99), ranking seventh all-time in career shutouts (13) and saves (159). Napoli played for the New England Mutiny in 2003, leading them to the WPSL semifinals.
