ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Corinne Harris (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep) scored three goals, and senior Nkem Ezurike (Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia/Sackville) added one as the No. 19-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Dayton in an exhibition contest Friday (Aug. 16) at the U-M Soccer Stadium.

Dayton registered the first four shots of the match, but it was Michigan that struck first in the 20th minute courtesy of Harris. After Ezurike drew a foul in the attacking third, senior Meghan Toohey (Philadelphia, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) received the free kick and dribbled into the box past a Dayton defender. She sent the pass into the box to Harris, who curled her shot into the lower left corner to give U-M a 1-0 lead.

Dayton provided the equalizer in the 29th minute, as Juliana Libertin found some open space and sent in a high-arching, curling shot from 25 yards out.

Michigan responded to take the lead in the 34th minute on a header goal from Ezurike. The play started off a free kick, as junior Christina Murillo (Ojai, Calif./Nordhoff) sent in the ball from over 40 yards out into the six-yard box. As the Dayton goalkeeper Heather Betancourt came out to make a play on the ball, Ezurike jumped in front and screened her, redirecting the ball into the back of the net to put U-M up 2-1. Four minutes later, Harris scored again, putting the Wolverines up, 3-1. Freshman Nicky Waldeck (Chicago, Ill./Western Reserve Academy [OH]) won the ball in the midfield and passed outside to a streaking Harris, who made a slick move with the ball around her defender and slipped it by Betancourt into the lower right corner.

Harris completed the hat trick in the 53rd minute. Murillo sent a free kick into the box that missed everyone except freshman Madisson Lewis (Canton, Mich./Plymouth), who was finishing a run. Lewis corralled the ball and took a well-placed shot that was saved, but the rebound kicked back to Harris, who finished the opportunity to cap the scoring at 4-1.

Freshmen goalkeeper Taylor Bucklin (Greenwich, Conn./Brookfield) played 71 minutes, making four saves. Sophomore Maddie Clarfield (Malibu, Calif./Malibu) played the final 19 but did not make a save.

With two exhibitions down, the Wolverines gear up for the regular season, which begins next Friday (Aug. 23) against UW-Milwaukee. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium.
