ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No.22-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six matches and its shutout streak to 560:53, battling to a scoreless draw with Iowa on Friday (Sept. 28) at the U-M Soccer Stadium.

Michigan (9-2-1, 3-0-1) outshot Iowa, 8-6, in the first period, with each team registering only one shot on frame. The Wolverines' best chance in the opening half came on a corner kick from junior Shelina Zadorsky (London, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) in the 32nd minute. Zadorsky played a high, curling ball over the outstretched arms of Iowa goalkeeper Meg Goodson, leaving an Iowa defender to clear ball off of the goal line.

Sophomore Christina Murillo (Ojai, Calif./Nordhoff) nearly put the Wolverines on the board in the final minute of regulation when she sent a free kick from nearly 40 yards out towards the upper-right corner of the net, leaving new Iowa goalkeeper Hannah Clark scrambling to tip the ball narrowly over the crossbar. On the ensuing corner kick, Murillo controlled the ball off an Iowa defender's header and placed another shot on goal from inside the 18-yard box that was blocked and cleared by a Hawkeye defender, ending the scoring threat and sending the match to overtime.

The Wolverines' best chance in extra time came from sophomore Chloe Sosenko (South Lyon, Mich./Brighton) in the 103rd minute. She received a pass from Murillo on the outer edge of the penalty area, and sent a strong, dipping shot across the net, missing the right post by inches.

Michigan outshot Iowa, 24-13, and held the edge on shots on goal at 8-2. Fifth-year senior Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lahser) made two saves in net for her seventh individual shutout of the season.

The Wolverines return to the U-M Soccer Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 30), hosting Nebraska at 2 p.m. Tickets for the match are available through the U-M Athletics Ticket Office, either by calling (734) 764-0247 or at www.mgoblue.com/tickets.
