ANN ABROR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team held strong for 110 minutes, battling No. 22-ranked Indiana to a 0-0 tie on Sunday (Oct. 18) at the U-M Soccer Complex. The game was watched by 542 people in person and a national television audience on the Big Ten Network.

Sophomore/freshman Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lahser) made five saves in her fourth shutout of the season.

Michigan generated two golden opportunities in the offensive zone in the first half, coming close in the 17th and 41st minutes. Senior/junior Alex Jendrusch (Troy, Mich./Athens) got open at the top of the box early in the frame and let a rocket go toward the upper 90, missing the net high and wide by inches in either direction. Still deadlocked at 0-0, freshman Holly Hein (Castaic, Calif./West Ranch) got on the end of a corner kick from junior Jackie Carron (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) to the far post and headed a shot off the iron. The rebound chance went into the net, but was wiped out by a foul call.

Kopmeyer was tested in the 52nd minute and answered the bell. Indiana's Carly Samp made a cut past a U-M defender at the top of the box and tried to sneak a shot inside the right post, but an outstretched Kopmeyer deflected the ball wide of the net to preserve the shutout. With just over 11 minutes left, it looked like Kopmeyer was going to face another challenge as the Hoosiers mounted a two-on-one counter attack. Sophomore Kim Siebert (Troy, Mich./Avondale) held off the two attackers long enough for a streaking sophomore Kristen Goncalves (Ann Arbor, Mich./Gabriel Richard Catholic) to come to her aid and help break up the opportunity.

Both teams generated sustained pressure in the first overtime but could not solve the stalemate. Michigan started the second extra frame with a corner kick and a throw-in that proved fruitless and again took a crack at the Hoosier net inside the final two minutes, stringing together five passes before sophomore Meaghan Hennessy (Westlake, Ohio/Magnificat) put a crossing attempt into a scrum in the box that the IU netminder punched away.

Michigan's home swing continues with a pair of Big Ten matchups next weekend. The Wolverines welcome Minnesota to town on Friday (Oct. 23) for a 7 p.m. contest and Wisconsin on Sunday (Oct. 25) for a 2 p.m. matinee. Both games are scheduled to be played on the Competition Field of the U-M Soccer Complex.

• Michigan wore pink arm and headbands today as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

• The all-time series remains in Michigan's favor at 10-4-3.

• The Big Ten Network has broadcast three games in Ann Arbor since coming on the air in 2007. All three contests, including today's 0-0 tie, have gone the full 110 minutes. The Wolverines tied the Hoosiers, 1-1, on Oct. 4, 2007, and Northwestern, 0-0, on Oct. 19, 2007.

• Sophomore/freshman Haley Kopmeyer recorded her fourth shutout of the season. She matches Carissa Stewart (4, 1997) for seventh place on the U-M single-season list.

• Kopmeyer's shutout also matched Stewart (4, 1997) for second on the U-M rookies list. She now trails Megan Tuura (5, 2003) for the program record in shutouts by a freshman goalkeeper.

• Junior Amanda Bowery made her 50th career start. She is the 34th player in program history to find her name in the starting lineup on 50 occasions.

• Senior Amy Klippert earned her 70th career start, moving her into 16th place all-time. Klippert's 70 career appearances also match Rachel Rothenbach (2001-04) for 31st on the all-time list.

On the game ... "We are a little bit snake bit right now. We are creating great chances and our set plays have been great all year long and our best chances off set plays today. Jackie (Carron's) services is fantastic. Holly (Hein) scored a goal in the first half off of a corner, but then they called it back on a foul against Amy (Klippert) for obstructing the goalkeeper. In the second half, again, a great service from Jackie right in front of the net to Amanda (Bowery) and she put it right over the top of a wide-open net. Some days are going to be like that and you have got to have people who are going to finish those off. But the fact that we did not finish those goals off but defended so hard to keep Indiana to keep them off the board gave us a tie."

On the defensive performance ... "I cannot think of Haley (Kopmeyer) really having to make any difficult save the entire game and I don't remember them having any great chances right in front of our net, but I remember us having some great chances right in front of their net. We might have been outshot, but when you are coaching you are looking at who is creating the better chances. Today, I think we were the ones creating the better chances, we just have to put them away."

On the team's effort ... "The real compliment I would like to pay to the team is, we played on Thursday against Purdue in a battle and we are only playing with 12 or 13 players a game, and we had to come back on Sunday and play against an Indiana team who was fresh and have not had to play for two weeks because of a rain out against Purdue and our girls dug deep. I was after them to keep running and keep fighting and I asked them, 'are you guys dead' and they said 'yes.' But I asked them to dig a little bit deeper and make a few runs for each other and they really did. Even in the last overtime, we created some good opportunities when were dead and they are fresh. So I think it is a real tribute to the girls that they dug that deep to get a tie when the other team was sitting fresh."

On the play of the defense ... "That just goes to show that even the shots they did have were from distance. I think we did a really good job not letting them get behind and get an opportunity to be really dangerous."
