OTTAWA, Ontario -- Junior Shelina Zadorsky (London, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) of the University of Michigan women's soccer team was called up to the Canadian Women's National Team on Friday (Jan. 4) and will participate in the 2013 Four Nations Tournament Jan. 12-16 in Yongchuan, China.
Zadorsky is one of 21 players on the roster headed to China. She recently participated in a year-end training camp, which was held Dec. 12-20 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her participation in that camp came on the heels of her performance at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan last August. She started all three matches in group play on defense while serving as team captain. Zadorsky was one of six nominees for Canadian U-20 Women's Player of the Year.
She started 19 of 20 matches on defense for Michigan in 2012 and was named an All-Big Ten first team selection and NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region third team pick. Zadorsky was recently chosen as one of four team captains for the upcoming 2013 season.
Canada will play three matches at the tournament: China on Jan. 12 (3 a.m. ET), South Korea on Jan. 14 (8 a.m. ET), and Norway on Jan. 16 (6 a.m. ET). The Canadians will also play host to the FIFA World Cup in 2015.
