HOUSTON, Texas -- The Houston Dash of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced Friday (April 11) that they have signed former University of Michigan player Holly Hein (2009-13) to a professional contract for their inaugural season.
Hein had been with the club since the start of the preseason as an undrafted camp invitee.
In her final two seasons at Michigan (2012-13), Hein helped lead the team to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, finishing in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, respectively. She was a two-time team captain, two-time NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region pick and a two-time All-Big Ten Conference selection.
Primarily a central defender, Hein started 74 of 79 matches in her career, scoring eight goals and dishing out three assists while spearheading a stout defense that conceded only 29 goals over her final two seasons.
Hein is the third U-M player in the NWSL, joining former teammates Haley Kopmeyer (Seattle) and Nkem Ezurike (Boston). The Dash will open up the season at home Saturday (April 12) against Portland at 7 p.m. CDT.
