Hello everyone!
Hope the summer is treating you well. I too am working in California for the summer like Clare, except I am in San Diego with the State Farm management team (discount double check!). So far it has been absolutely incredible. Today I worked with Habitat for Humanity with other company interns. I've also been lucky enough to see some teammates, as I met Clare in Santa Monica two weeks ago and played against Keyanna's team in the WPSL.
Besides all the work, beach time, and of course summer workouts, the most notable event of my summer happened last week when my car broke down on the side of the highway. I know you all think California is all beaches and palm trees. That's false. There are plenty of barren, mountainous, empty areas with highways and minimal exits. That's the place my car decided to start smoking from under the hood. In the wise words of Tina Scully, "Some days you're the bird and some days you're the statue." This was definitely a statue moment. I sat on the side of the highway for an hour and a half with hardly any cell phone service and lots of people honking at me for not being far enough off the side of the road.
Luckily all is well, and if that is the worst thing that happens all summer it will definitely be a success. I can't wait to get back to Ann Arbor and see all my teammates and to start preparing together for the season!
Until next time!
