Clare Stachel Interview Video icon

Hello again, Michigan fans!

I am writing to you once again from L.A., although this time I am much farther along in my internship and have learned a whole lot more! There have been a couple of fun events out here this summer like the X Games and the ESPYs. During the X Games, there were giant ramps and loop-di-loops surrounding the office outside, as well as many young skateboarders doing things I did not even know were possible! We got some fantastic footage of some scooter tricks (yes, I said scooter) and fan activities that I turned into a fun montage for one of the shows.

The ESPYs were even more fun because we did a live SportsCenter from the L.A. Live plaza in the middle of the day. I could also stand at the office window and see the athletes all arriving in their limos and blacked-out SUVs onto the red carpet. My favorite part of the show was by far the Pat Summitt piece. That is exactly the type of thing I would love to create someday.

I have spent some time with different positions inside the company like the director and producer. It never ceases to amaze me how many little things have to happen to create the whole show. For example, that 15-second Tigers-Angels highlight that you saw on SportsCenter last night took a whole day's work for one person to create. After watching the game, you've got to log every play that happens and clip together a story. Then you have to create three different documents to accompany the clip and send it to all the shows that will be using it. All for that one-minute highlight which is part of an hour-long show.

I have learned something new every day but have also gotten the chance to explore L.A. Whether it's visiting Haley, hiking to the Hollywood sign or chasing food trucks around the city just to try their food (like brown butter maple ice cream), I have thoroughly enjoyed myself!

However, do not fret! I am über excited to come home and get started on the season. I will hopefully be seeing you all out at the games this fall!

Go Blue!
