LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Senior forward Nkem Ezurike (Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia/Sackville) of the University of Michigan women's soccer team was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Preseason Best XI third team, the website announced on Tuesday (July 30).
Ezurike enters her senior season ranked No. 4 on the school's all-time list in career goals (35) and career points (80). She needs 10 goals this season to become the school's all-time leading scorer, a spot currently held by Kacy Beitel (44, 1997-00). Ezurike has been an All-Big Ten selection in each of her three years for Michigan, earning first team honors last year after scoring 15 goals in 20 matches, including six game-winning goals. She is also a two-time NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region pick, making the second team last season.
Ezurike is one of four Big Ten players named to the three teams, joining Penn State's Maya Hayes (first team) and Whitney Church (second team) and Illinois' Vanessa DiBernardo (first team).
Michigan officially opens up the 2013 season against UW-Milwaukee on Friday, Aug. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the U-M Soccer Stadium.
