PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team was picked to finish second in the Big Ten, as the conference released its annual preseason coaches' poll and Players to Watch list on Wednesday (Aug. 14). Penn State, which has won the last 15 Big Ten titles, was picked to finish first, followed by the Wolverines and Illinois.
Additionally, seniors Nkem Ezurike (Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia/Sackville) and Meghan Toohey (Philadelphia, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) and sophomore Corinne Harris (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep) were pegged as Players to Watch by the conference office. All three were All-Big Ten selections last year, with Ezurike making the first team, Toohey making the second team and Harris making the All-Freshman Team.
Michigan opens the regular season on Friday, Aug. 23, against UW-Milwaukee at the U-M Soccer Stadium. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Wolverines' first Big Ten match is Sunday, Sept. 22, at Iowa, a match that will be televised by the Big Ten Network. That match will begin at noon CDT.
