Every Wednesday throughout the 2013 season, captains Nkem Ezurike, Holly Hein, Meghan Toohey and Shelina Zadorsky will give the public an inside look at the University of Michigan women's soccer team through this blog, The Yellow Armband. Ezurike talks about last weekend's victories and how the team is treated when it's on the road in this week's entry.
Hello Michigan fans,
We're coming off a successful weekend, getting wins in away matches at Michigan State and Nebraska. The team did a great job against our in-state rivals and the competition between the two teams resulted in a battle from the opening whistle. Nebraska was no different. The Cornhuskers were on a seven-match winning streak and were undefeated in the Big Ten when that match started. We played extremely well and kept possession until we found gaps in their retreating defense. We got on board twice in the second half to put an end to their winning streak and came back to Ann Arbor with a lot of confidence.
Being away on the road, we get a chance to see the atmosphere of the different campuses around the Big Ten and the people that accompany them. Being in Lincoln, especially on a football Saturday, gave us an opportunity to see what the people were like. One word to describe the people of Nebraska -- friendly! They were eager to come and talk to us and see what sport we played and wished us good luck for our game the following day despite wearing all that Nebraska red. Even hearing a "Go Blue" while walking down the street was not uncommon.
Looking ahead to this week, our next match is on the road again against Penn State this Sunday. This will be another tough battle. As previous matches have proved, they are a tough team to beat. Nonetheless, we will be working hard and preparing the rest of the week for the match. I would like to thank everyone who followed our success over the weekend and encourage you to keep your support coming in our next challenge in State College.
Forever Go Blue,
