ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Jackie Carron (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) and sophomore Kristen Goncalves (Ann Arbor, Mich./Gabriel Richard Catholic) of the University of Michigan women's soccer team were selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Carron was named to the District 4 second team, while Goncalves earned a spot on the third team.
To be nominated for the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average.
Carron, a biology major, leads the Wolverines in assists (6) and points (10) and serves as one of the team's four captains. She has been named team Most Valuable Player twice and is a two-time Soccer Buzz All-Great Lakes Region third team honoree. She earned Academic All-Big Ten and the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement award as a sophomore.
Goncalves is planning to pursue a degree in brain behavior and cognitive science. She has started all 16 games that she has appeared in this season, tallying two goals, including the game winner against Valparaiso on Aug. 23. Goncalves earned the U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award as a freshman while making nine starts and collecting one goal and two assists.
