ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior defenders Holly Hein (Castaic, Calif./West Ranch) and Shelina Zadorsky (London, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) of the No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team were named to the Capital One Academic All-District Five second team selection, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday (Oct. 31).
To be eligible, nominated student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, in his/her second year at the current institution and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Hein and Zadorsky are four-year starters on the Michigan defense and are both captains of this year's squad. Together, they lead a backline that ranks 10th in the nation in goals-against average (0.51) and first in the Big Ten in both fewest goals allowed (nine) and shutouts (eight). Both student-athletes were All-Big Ten (first team) and NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region (Hein - second team, Zadorsky - third team) selections last season in helping Michigan reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Both Hein and Zadorsky have played in nearly 70 career matches, combining for 10 goals and 16 assists.
Hein will graduate in December with a degree in screen arts and cultures, while Zadorsky will graduate in the spring with a degree in psychology.
Michigan closes out the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 2) against Ohio State. The match will begin at 6 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium.
