FULLERTON, Calif. -- Senior centerfielder Molly Bausher (Las Vegas, Nev./Spring Valley HS) used an eighth-inning, run-scoring single to propel the No. 4-ranked University of Michigan softball team to a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Arizona on the first day of action at the Judi Garman Classic on Thursday (March 18) at the Titan Softball Complex.

Junior pinch runner Alycia Ryan (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) started the eighth inning on second base via the international tiebreaker and was quickly advanced on sophomore shortstop Stephanie Kirkpatrick's (Plainfield, Ill./Central HS) bunt single down the first base line. Bausher then connected with the 1-2 pitch and lined it into centerfield, scoring Ryan from third base to bring an immediate end to the contest.

Kirkpatrick and sophomore leftfielder Bree Evans (Bloomington, Calif./Rialto HS) paced the Wolverines' offense with matching 2-for-3 efforts at the plate, while senior designated player Nikki Nemitz (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Regina HS) continued her recent hitting resurgence with her second double of the season in the second inning.

Junior RHP Jordan Taylor (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) earned the complete-game shutout -- her fourth of the season -- with a spectacular 12-strikeout, one-hit performance from the circle. Taylor allowed just two total runners into scoring position -- both of which came in the sixth inning -- to improve to 12-1 on the year.

The Wildcats strung together a walk and their lone base hit of the contest to threaten in the sixth. With one down, designated player Karissa Buchanan accepted a full-count base on balls and quickly moved to second on leftfielder Brittany Lastrapes bunt to third base. After a groundout advanced both baserunners, Taylor struck out shortstop K'Lee Arrendondo on three pitches to end the threat.

The Wolverines will return to action tomorrow (Friday, March 19) for the second day of competition at the annual Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. U-M will square off against UNLV (9 a.m. PDT) and Utah (11:15 a.m. PDT) at the Titan Softball Complex.
