Michigan Head Coach Carol Hutchins
On tonight's win ... "It's a great victory for Michigan. I told my kids, simply, we did it as a team. It took the whole team to beat Kentucky. And we're all fine with that. I thought we had a great performance by Haylie (Wagner) on the mound. She was very composed the entire game. Our motto is, it takes everybody and it took everybody. I thought we stayed cool and calm even in the seventh when we gave it up. It's easy to get down. These are kids. It's easy to get down and fold. And they came back and committed to hitting the better pitches. I think it was just huge (Lyndsay) Doyle getting on (to lead off the seventh) and things happening for us. I can't tell you how big that was. And obviously Sara (Driesenga) coming up, has a big hit, and she hadn't had some successful at-bats. You know it's not about the past. It's about the next pitch and she did a fantastic job getting a hold of one. I told Nicole (Sappingfield), I'm sending her no matter what. Great win for us and great game by Kentucky. Most important thing I tell my kids is to enjoy their victory until they get back to the hotel. Don't want to get too high. We have a game tomorrow and regardless of who we play, we just need to focus and need to focus on Michigan softball. "
U-M Freshman RHP Sara Driesenga
On her last at-bat ... "She (head coach Carol Hutchins) said it didn't matter what I did in my last at-bat. They were not the best at-bats I have had all year. I just had to forget about it and keep moving forward. The only thing that matters is that next pitch."
U-M Senior Third Baseman Stephanie Kirkpatrick
On breaking out of her hitting slump ... "I don't really think about that because I know that my team and coaches trust in me or I wouldn't be in the lineup. I did go into a little slump, but that just means it is time to come out of it. I was pumped to get that hit and pumped to get one on the board. I know we were fouling a lot off, and she was jamming us a little bit and was a little faster than what we have been seeing with a good spin. In the end, we were able to triumph over that."
