Michigan Head Coach Carol Hutchins
Opening statement ... "First of all, congratulations to Louisville on their season. They had a fantastic year and are a fantastic team. For us to come and take it on their field is a great example of the amount of pressure the higher seed has. Regardless of who you are, you can't ever let your guard down. I thought we had just a fantastic weekend. We were excited to come here, and we really had our hands full, but our kids were brilliant in one area in particular and it was one-pitch softball. We harped on that all day. We told them before the game don't worry about whether we get it in one, just worry about one pitch. You have to stay on them because they can get ahead of themselves; they are kids. I thought they did a great job. It's a tough game and it's a tough team. I'm very proud of our team. It has been a heck of a season for us. As we always say, 'It's not where you start, it's where you finish.' We're happy to be advancing and have practice on Tuesday."
On the team hitting its stride at the right time ... "I'm certain we're going to get after it on Tuesday and keep trying to womp on the ball and get good and aggressive cuts. I think more than anything we have to do whatever it takes to win. Some games this year we've had lots of offense. The thing you want is consistency and the most important place is in the circle and on defense."
U-M Senior Amanda Chidester
On the big first inning ... "It huge and that's something we wanted to do. We wanted to come out with the momentum and we wanted to come out and attack them. I thought our energy level was great right from the start. We've just been harping one-pitch softball and I thought we executed our game plan perfectly in the first inning and it worked to our advantage."
U-M Freshman Haylie Wagner
On the defense behind her ... "Louisville definitely came out swinging and they've already seen me a couple times this year. I knew this was going to be a tough game. Being able to go after them and having my defense get those double plays was definitely a huge thing."
