Michigan Head Coach Carol Hutchins
Opening statement ... "Well, that was quite a game. Certainly going into it I would not have predicted it would be as many runs as we ended up with. Credit to our side. I think our girls were locked in; they were locked in every pitch of the game. We got behind early and we just stayed in our moment and played one-pitch softball as well as we play it. Things went our way tonight, that's for sure, but I can guarantee that tonight has no bearing on tomorrow. I'm getting my kids ready to play to the task and we are going to come back ready to play because I expect a tough game."
On handling Lacey Waldrop's pitching ... "Our goal was just to see the ball. They worked on it the last few days, staying locked in and seeing the ball. I thought we executed it."
On preparing for a closer scoring game ... "You always expect it to be difficult every day."
U-M Sophomore Outfielder Sierra Lawrence
On her first couple of at-bats ... "Like coach said, just looking to see the ball and get a hit wherever it's pitched. Just get a hit, wasn't looking for anything."
U-M Sophomore Shortstop Sierra Romero On changing approach because of the pitcher ... "You really had to see a strike. She's a drop ball pitcher so she wants me to chase and if you can stay focused and not swing at any of the drop pitches you know you look for that one pitch and take advantage."
On having two opportunities to advance to the WCWS ... "Tomorrow we're coming at it like it's the first game. We have to win one more game and that's our focus. We're going to go at it the same way we went at it tonight, attacking every pitch. We can't let up this post season."
U-M Freshman Pitcher Megan Betsa
On the run support ... "It definitely was nice to have all those runs but that's their job. They provide me with runs and to get that many was definitely nice to have that cushion but my job is to go out there and put zeroes on the board."
On preference of starting or coming in later ... "I think that whether I start or whether I come in like I said, it's my job to give my team a chance to win. Haylie (Wagner) had my back all weekend and Sara (Driesenga) has had my back all season. That's my job. We are a pitching staff and we pick each other up when we're down."
