OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Former University of Michigan softball standout Jordan Taylor (2008-11) has been named to the 2012 USA Softball Women's National Team, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America announced on Wednesday (Jan. 11). Taylor was one of 12 athletes named to the squad, which will compete at the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women's World Championship, following a 2012 USA Softball Women's National Team and USA Softball Women's Elite National Team Selection Camp in June.
The Women's National Team will compete at the World Cup of Softball in Oklahoma City, the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada, and the World Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. The Women's Elite National Team will compete at the World University Games in Colorado Springs, Colo. Additional events may be added to the team schedules at a later date.
Throughout the spring, additional athletes will be invited to the June Selection Camp, where the five remaining members of the 2012 USA Softball Women's National Team and the 17-athlete roster for the 2012 USA Softball Women's Elite National Team will be decided. Following the Selection Camp, members of both teams will play each other in exhibition games before beginning competition.
Taylor, a right-handed pitcher for the Wolverines, accumulated a 31-5 record in 2011 with a 1.51 earned-run average, 340 strikeouts and 12 shutouts. She claimed the third NFCA All-America honor of her career, earning second team at-large accolades, and received All-Big Ten first team honors for the third time in her career. She established Wolverine program records in nearly all career categories, including appearances (162), wins (107), strikeouts (1,220) and no-hitters (8).
Taylor was a member of the 2011 USA Softball Women's National Team and helped Team USA to the gold medal at the 2011 World Cup of Softball in July in Oklahoma City and the 2011 Pan American Games in October in Guadalajara, Mexico. She is the first Wolverine to be named to the squad in successive years; Jennie Ritter (2003-06) was a member of the national team in 2007.
