Ritter Among Top Choices in PFX Tour and NPFL Drafts

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior pitcher Jennie Ritter (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) of the University of Michigan softball team was recently drafted by teams in the ProFastpitch Extreme Tour and the National Pro Fastpitch League.

The PFX Tour selected Ritter fourth overall on Feb. 1 in their inaugural draft, while the Akron Racers of the National ProFastpitch League picked Ritter sixth overall on Feb. 15. Due to NCAA regulations, active collegiate athletes may not sign with franchises until the 2006 college season is finished.

The PFX Tour will tour a number of cities including Oklahoma City, Orlando, St. Louis, Sacramento and Indianapolis, with the inaugural PFX Tour National Championship being held Oct. 27-29 in Oklahoma City. The National Pro Fastpitch League has operated since 1997 under the names Women's Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL). It was created to give elite female athletes the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport.

Ritter was the only Big Ten Conference player selected in the PFX Tour draft and was the only league player selected in the first round of the NPFL draft.
