ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan softball team's game against Western Michigan on Tuesday, April 8, will be a zero-waste event. All fan-related waste at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field, will be either recyclable or compostable, meaning all waste at the game will be diverted from landfills.

The game against WMU is slated to begin at 4 p.m.

Sodexo, U-M Athletics' concessions service provider, will offer all food and drink items in recyclable or compostable packaging. The overall number of waste stations will be reduced for this game, and existing trash cans will be converted into compost waste cans. Members of Michigan Student-Athletes for Sustainability (M-SAS) will volunteer as waste station attendants to assist fans with questions. A postgame clean-up crew will separate waste collected throughout the facility to be recycled or composted.

Michigan Athletics endeavors to adapt and promote sustainable practices and create a culture of environmental stewardship. In partnership with the University's Office of Campus Sustainability and M-SAS, the athletic department has developed a strategy for reducing its impact on the environment and established many sustainability goals and objectives. Steered by a committee comprised of team members, student-athletes and campus partners, the U-M Athletic Department is committed to sustainability and living Planet Blue.
