PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- University of Michigan softball junior RHP Jordan Taylor(Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS), who claimed the first perfect game of her collegiate career in a 9-0, five-inning win at Minnesota last Saturday (April 10), earned her fourth Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award of the season on Monday (April 12). Taylor, who owns six career Big Ten weekly awards, has earned nearly half of this season's conference pitching honors.
The Wolverine junior tossed five flawless innings against the Gophers, striking out 10 of the 15 batters she faced to notch her second win of the weekend and improve her season record to 16-2. The no-hitter was Taylor's second of the season and fifth in her career, giving her a share of the Michigan's all-time record in the category -- with Jennie Ritter (2003-06) -- while the perfect game was the fifth in U-M softball history.
Against Indiana on Thursday (April 8), Taylor earned the win with a seven-strikeout effort, allowing just five hits and two runs in an 8-2 win. She finished the week with a 1.17 earned-run average and 17 strikeouts. The Wolverine junior leads the Big Ten in nearly every pitching category, including wins (16), ERA (1.17), strikeouts (190) and opposing average (.153).
The Wolverines will kick off a five-game homestand on Wednesday (April 14), hosting intrastate rival Central Michigan for a 6 p.m. non-conference slate at the Wilpon Softball Complex, home of Alumni Field.
