ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In recognition of her work in the classroom and solid play on the field, senior rightfielder Angela Findlay (Lockport, Ill./East HS) of the University of Michigan softball team was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 softball team on Thursday (May 6), as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Findlay was named to the Academic All-District first team for the second consecutive year. In 2008, she claimed a third-team distinction. She moves on to the national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America consideration.
A 2007 NFCA All-American and three-time All-Big Ten first team pick, Findlay has started all 48 games in rightfield for Michigan and ranks among the Wolverines' hitting leaders with a .358 average, 20 extra-base hits and 47 runs batted in. The U-M captain owns a career-best 12 home runs and has rolled in Big Ten play, boasting a .405 average in league games.
Findlay has listed among the Wolverine leaders in the classroom in each of her four seasons, earning the team's Leo and Edna Drewett Award for Academic Excellence for the second straight campaign. A psychology major, Findlay is an Academic All-Big Ten selection and has garnered U-M Athletic Academic Achievement honors in each of her collegiate seasons.
U-M will host its final regular-season home game on Saturday (May 8), welcoming intrastate rival Michigan State for a 7 p.m. contest at the Wilpon Softball Complex, home of Alumni Field. The Maize and Blue will be clad in pink uniforms for its Pink Game, held in conjunction with Friday's inaugural Michigan Softball Academy.
