• NCAA Tournament Bracket
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fresh off its fifth consecutive Big Ten championship, the No. 22-ranked University of Michigan softball team earned the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament and will participate in the Louisville Regional along with the host and No. 15 seed Cardinals, Kentucky and Valparaiso as announced by the NCAA on Sunday night (May 13).
Michigan (39-15) will take on Kentucky (29-28) on Friday (May 18) at 4:30 p.m. in the first game of the regional. Louisville (53-3) and Valparaiso (42-17) will follow at 7 p.m. Each game of the Louisville Regional will appear live on the ESPN family of networks.
The regional is a double-elimination format, with the winner advancing to a Super Regional against the winner of the Tuscaloosa Regional, which includes No. 2 seed Alabama, Georgia Tech, Tennessee-Martin and South Alabama. The Super Regional, slated for May 24-27, is a best two-of-three format with the winner advancing to the eight-team Women's College World Series, scheduled for May 31-June 6 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
U-M squared off against both Louisville and Kentucky this year, knocking off the Wildcats (3-0) in a neutral site game and falling to Louisville (2-1) at the Cardinals' Red and Black Tournament. It is the second consecutive year that Michigan and Kentucky have squared off in the postseason as the Wildcats eliminated Michigan in last year's Ann Arbor Regional.
The Wolverines (39-15) are making their 18th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the 20th in program history.
