STARKVILLE, Miss. -- University of Michigan softball senior RHP Jordan Taylor (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) was named the season's final National Fastpitch Coaches Association's National Player of the Week on Tuesday (May 17). It is the first national weekly citation of Taylor's collegiate career; she was a 14-time Big Ten Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Taylor helped lead the Wolverines to their fourth straight Big Ten title and sweep over in-state rival Michigan State last weekend (Fri-Sat., May 13-14) with two commanding performances in the circle. She allowed no runs off just one hit with 19 strikeouts and only two walks over 11 innings of work. She finished the week with 0.00 earned-run average, while limiting the Spartans to a .027 batting average.
She started the week with a one-hit, 13-strikeout performance against MSU on Friday in the regular-season home finale at the Wilpon Complex. Taylor was even more impressive in the road game on Saturday, tossing the eighth no-hitter of her career and the second of her final campaign with Michigan.
Taylor finished the 2011 regular season with a 29-3 record, a 1.29 ERA, 301 strikeouts, an opponent's batting average of .174, and a nation-leading eight saves.
Michigan enters the NCAA Tournament with a 51-4 record, having reached the 40-win total for the 17th season in a row. Michigan hosts a four-team NCAA Regional Friday through Sunday (May 20-22) and will face off against Western Michigan on Friday at 8 p.m. at the Wilpon Softball Complex, home of Alumni Field. All regional games in Ann Arbor will be broadcast live by ESPN's networks and on ESPN3.com.
