ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Junior Geneviève Aubé (LaSarre, Quebec/St. Andres School [Fla.]) and sophomore Kayla Douglas (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) of the No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team earned first-place finishes in their individual events today (Sunday Feb. 10) during the second and final day of competition at the Michigan Open held inside the Oakland University Aquatic Center. Three other swimmers raced to top-six placements across their events.

Aubé took first place in the 50-yard freestyle final. Her time of 23.98 was .18 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She also managed to shave .09 seconds off her morning preliminary time of 24.07.

Two of Aubé's Michigan teammates were right behind her in the 50-yard freestyle finals. Sophomore Molly Schaefer (West Bloomfield, Mich./Marian) finished in a tie for third place, touching the wall at 24.32. Her finals mark was .15 seconds faster than her morning preliminary time. Just behind Schaefer was senior Katherine Carl (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser), who placed fifth with a time of 24.57.

Douglas delivered the second event victory for a Michigan swimmer. She raced the 100-yard backstroke in 56.17, good enough for first place and .25 seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer. Douglas was nearly a second faster in the final compared to her preliminary time (57.14).

Carl also competed in the 200-yard freestyle finals before the 50-yard finals. She finished in fifth place with a time of 1:53.29. That time was more than three seconds faster than her morning preliminary time (1:56.32). Schaefer swam in the preliminaries of the 200-yard freestyle in the morning but chose to focus on the 50-yard freestyle finals during the evening session.

Sophomore Alisa Zoltowski (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) took home a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly finals (2:09.76).

A select group of Michigan swimmers and divers will compete at the Big Ten Championships Wed-Sat., Feb. 20-23, inside the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
