ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Despite seven top-five finishes Saturday morning (Nov. 5) during the final session of the two-day, double-dual meet, the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team could not pull off the upsets, falling 206-159 to Florida and 204-166 to Stanford at Canham Natatorium.
The Wolverines got off to a good start, scoring two top-four finishes in the opening race of the morning, the 1,000-yard freestyle. Junior Adrienne Bicek (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) finished second (10:00.16), with fellow junior Kally Fayhee (North Aurora, Ill./Rosary) following in fourth (10:10.87).
Three Wolverines -- junior Ashley Cohagen (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), freshman Claudia Lau (Hong Kong, China/Diocesan Girls' School) and junior Sam Pearson (Las Vegas, Nev./Faith Lutheran) -- scored top-eight finishes in the 200-yard backstroke, placing fourth (2:02.28), sixth (2:02.74) and seventh (2:03.18), respectively. Senior Alexa Mehesan (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) led Michigan with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (51.11).
Sophomore Angela Chokran (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North) led the Wolverines in the 200-yard breaststroke with a third-place finish (2:19.59), with junior Julia Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) in fifth (2:20.25). Senior Caitlin Dauw (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) scored a third-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.09).
The Wolverines' divers return to competition in two weeks at the Pittsburgh Invitational, which runs Friday through Sunday (Nov. 18-20).
N O T E S
Michigan falls to 0-8 all-time against Stanford and 0-10 all-time against Florida in dual meets.
The pool reverted back to short-course yards for the meet's final session on Saturday after two sessions of long-course meters on Friday.
Alexa Mehesan set a new season-best time in the 100-yard freestyle by two-hundredths of a second. Her time on Saturday was 51.11, besting her previous best of 51.13, set Oct. 8 at Minnesota.
