WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Seven members of the No. 22-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team competed during day one of the Purdue Invitational, held Friday (Nov. 16) at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.
U-M had a pair of swimmers reach the 'C' final in the 50-yard freestyle. Junior Nikki Hubbard (Granger, Ind./Penn) finished 21st (24.36), and sophomore Molly Schaefer (West Bloomfield, Mich./Marian) was 24th (24.84).
Sophomore Kayla Douglas (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) was the team's only participant in the 200-yard individual medley, taking 23rd (2:10.42).
Michigan also had a pair in the diving well that competed off the three-meter board. Sophomore Carey Chen (Vancouver, British Columbia/University Hill Secondary) placed seventh (279.50), and junior Erin Bridgewater (Kawkawlin, Mich./Bay City Western) was eighth (273.35).
Michigan did not swim anybody in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay or 400-yard medley relay. Only 14 student-athletes made the trip to Purdue.
The Wolverines return to the pool tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 17) for the second day of the Purdue Invitational. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m.
