WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The No. 22-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the Purdue Invitational on Sunday (Nov. 18) at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. The Wolverines, who sent only 14 student-athletes to the three-day meet, finished seventh as a team (35 points).
All four divers scored points for the team in the diving well off the 10-meter platform. Sophomore Carey Chen (Vancouver, British Columbia/University Hill Secondary) and sophomore Marina Nazario (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) both scored top-five finishes, with Chen taking second (262.65) and Nazario finishing fifth (217.85). Rounding out the diving contingent were a pair of freshmen, with Sarah Kamstra (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland West) finishing ninth (183.40) and Cameron Monroe (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) taking 11th (158.90).
Sophomore Kayla Douglas (Livonia, Mich./Franklin) had the highest finish among the U-M swimmers on Sunday, placing eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.14).
Four others were 'C' finalists on Sunday, including a trio in the 100-yard freestyle. Senior Katherine Carl (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser) was 21st (53.36), junior Nikki Hubbard (Granger, Ind./Penn) was 22nd (53.73), and sophomore Molly Schaefer (West Bloomfield, Mich./Marian) was 24th (54.26). Sophomore Alisa Zoltowski (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette) was the other 'C' finalist, swimming in the 200-yard butterfly (21st, 2:12.30).
The Wolverines next return to the pool on Friday, Nov. 30, for the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. The three-day competition runs through Sunday, Dec. 2.
