KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 25-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team raced to numerous new personal bests and NCAA provisional times today (Thursday, Dec. 5) during day one of the U.S. Winter Championships held at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.

Both U-M relays today took home fourth-place finishes and NCAA provisional times. U-M's 400-yard medley relay of sophomore Ali DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South), senior Angela Chokran (South Elgin, Ill./St. Charles North), senior Courtney Beidler (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) and sophomore Zoe Mattingly (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) capped the evening session by swimming the second-fastest time in school history at 3:35.28.

The 200-yard freestyle relay featured two freshmen and two sophomores: Julia Fiks Salem (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Domus Sapientiae), DeLoof, Madeline Frost (Saline, Mich./Saline) and Mattingly. That relay secured its NCAA provisional time in the morning preliminary session (1:30.40).

Beidler swam her way to an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.59). She secured a new personal best in the event during morning preliminaries with a time of 1:57.74, which is the fourth-fastest career time at U-M. Sophomore Marni Oldershaw (Oakville, Ontario/Iroquois Ridge) nearly equaled Beidler's morning time in the evening 'B' final as she touched at 1:57.89.

Fiks Salem and Mattingly each scored individual NCAA 'B' cuts in the 50-yard freestyle while also setting new personal bests at 22.88 and 22.90, respectively.

The Wolverines will be back in the water on Friday (Dec. 6) for day two of the U.S. Winter Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m., with finals following at 5 p.m.
