The No. 22-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team (1-5, 0-2 Big Ten) will host its first dual meet in nearly two months on Saturday (Jan. 7), when it welcomes No. 8 Indiana (3-3, 2-0 Big Ten) to Canham Natatorium. The meet, which will also include the men's squads from both teams, will begin at noon.

Training Trip ... The Wolverines return to Ann Arbor for the second half of the season fresh off their annual semester break training trip, which was in Florida this season, culminating with a combined practice against Florida Gulf-Coast on Jan. 2. Last season, Michigan did its best swimming after the training trip, recording 60 season-best times and 28 NCAA consideration times at the 2011 Big Ten Championships.

Last Time Out ... On the diving side, freshmen Marina Nazario and Emily Boyd competed over the break at the Fort Lauderdale Diving Invitational on Dec. 31. Nazario won the three-meter competition (277.95), while Boyd finished third (234.75). [ Recap ]

Dominating in Iowa ... From Dec. 2-4, while on its first trip to Iowa in 19 years, Michigan won the Hawkeye Invitational, dominating the eight-team field and establishing numerous meet and pool records. The Wolverines' swimmers came into the meet not having achieved an NCAA consideration standard in any race all season but left Iowa with 23 of them and achieved season-best times in every race. Hello Again ... This Saturday's dual meet between Michigan and Indiana is the seventh meeting between the two schools over the last four seasons. The two teams competed in a double-dual meet earlier this season at Canham Natatorium, along with Texas on Oct. 28, with Indiana winning, 189-109 [ Recap ]. The Hoosiers have won five of the last six meetings.

Additionally, Michigan ranks second on the 200-yard medley relay, third on the 400-yard medley relay, fourth on the 800-yard freestyle relay, and fifth on both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Divers Stepping Up ... The Michigan divers are excelling in the second year under KZ Li. Senior Amanda Lohman has qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving Meet on all three boards, while freshman Carey Chen (one-meter, platform), Erin Bridgewater (one-meter) and Marina Nazario (three-meter) have also qualified.

Setting Records ... Against Florida and Stanford on Nov. 4, the Wolverines set two program long-course records on relays. The 200-meter freestyle relay, consisting of Alexa Mehesan, Caitlin Dauw, Deirdre Jones and Claudia Lau, finished third, but its time of 1:47.29 shattered the 16-year-old program record, previously held by former Wolverines Rachel Gustin, Alegra Breaux, Elizabeth Jackson and Anne Malley (set in 1995).

Also, Mehesan, Dauw, Angela Chokran, and Ashley Cohagen set a new program and Canham Natatorium record in the 200-meter medley relay (1:56.94), beating the field by more than a full second. They broke the former record held by Elizabeth Jackson, Rachel Gustin, Talor Bendel and Megan Gillam (1:59.25), which was also set in 1995. Gustin, Bendel and Gillam were NCAA Champions as part of Michigan's 400-yard medley relay team that season.

In addition, the Wolverines set 11 meet and facility records at the Hawkeye Invitational from Dec. 2-4. The meet was held at the Iowa Campus Recreation and Wellness center, the site for this year's Big Ten Championships.

Future Wolverines ... On Nov. 15, Michigan announced the signings of seven prep standouts to National Letters of Intent for the 2012-13 season. The signees include Ali DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South), Marie Georger (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep), Zoe Mattingly (Zionsville, Ind../Zionsville), Sharalynn Missiuna (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Trafalgar), Marni Oldershaw (Oakville, Ontario/Iroquois Ridge), Jessica Wolf (Waukesha, Wis./Muskego), and diver Emmy Orrico (Commerce Township, Mich./Mercy). • Four of the six swimmers are ranked in inside the top 100 in CollegeSwimming.com's 2012 Recruiting Rankings, including Oldershaw (No. 34), Georger (No. 65), Wolf (No. 79), and Mattingly (No. 99). Additionally, DeLoof is No. 158 and Missiuna is No. 160.

• TheSwimmersCircle.com rated Michigan's recruiting haul as the tenth-best class in the nation through the early signing period. [ Rankings ]

• Both Georger and Oldershaw are rated as five-star recruits by SwimmingWorldMagazine.com.

• Jessica Wolf is the second-best distance swimmer in the country, trailing only Bonnie Brandon, the No. 1 overall recruit by CollegeSwimming.com, who signed with Arizona.

Oh Captain! ... Kristyne Cole, Amanda Lohman and Alexa Mehesan are the team captains for this season. Cole was also a captain of last year's team.

Familiar Foes ... The Wolverines will swim off against many familiar teams this season. The Wolverines will swim in 11 competitions this season, all against opponents they faced last season.

Home Sweet Home ... Michigan is at home six times this season, having already faced Indiana once (Oct. 28, Jan. 7), Toledo (Oct. 21), Texas (Oct. 28), Florida (Nov. 4-5), and Stanford (Nov. 4-5), and will also host Northwestern (Jan. 14), Notre Dame (Jan. 14) and Michigan State (Jan. 27).
