The Boiling Point: Huge Win

This is the Boiling Point, the official blog of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team, penned by junior swimmer Samantha Pearson. In this installment, Sam writes about the team's big win last Saturday over No. 8 Indiana.

Wowza! It feels SO GREAT to be a Michigan Wolverine! There was some serious Maize and Blue domination at Canham Natatorium last Saturday, as both the women's and men's teams defeated Indiana, both of which were ranked in the top 10! Having just returned from our training trip and starting up a new semester, we knew that this would be a tough dual meet. We would most likely endure some pretty painful races, but we fought through it and never gave up.

We decided to start off the meet with making a statement that we were going to fight like hell for Michigan in each and every race. Going 1-2 in the 200-yard medley relay got the momentum going, and was followed by Mighty Mouse (a.k.a. Adrienne Bicek) putting up a good fight and coming from behind to win the 1,000-yard freestyle! Some other shoutouts go to our 100-yard breaststrokers and 100-yard butterfliers, who both went 1-2-3 in their events! Hail Yeah!!

Even with all of us swimming super fast, Indiana was putting up a great fight as well, and after the last relay we were only leading by two points! We all knew that the final results of the three-meter diving would determine that winner of the meet, and we anxiously watched our divers really step up and put it all on the line for their last round of dives. An enormous shoutout to Amanda Lohman for winning both the one-meter and three-meter boards, and securing a three-point victory for Michigan! Wahoo!

It was so motivating to see so many Michigan fans in the stands, and it has never felt better to sing the fight song in front of them! While we are so excited about our victory, Coach Jim kept us grounded by reminding us that this is just one more step in our journey to Big Tens and NCAAs. Naturally, we celebrated our win by doing our dryland circuit on the Mez. We continue our jam packed month of dual meets this weekend at home against Northwestern and Notre Dame! Hope to see you there!

1-2-3 GO BLUE!!!
